Walther PPK/S (Maruzen)

by Kent

My roommate is a really big Bond fan. He's graduating this year and I needed to find a graduation gift. I never would have thought to pickup the PPK if it wasn't for him.

After hearing many many mixed reviews about the PPK, I was really disappointed. There was no blowback version of the PPK to be found. So I called up Peter at Asia Pacific asking him about the PPK fixed slide and pricing (since I had no prior problems with him). Heck Peter even suggested a Sig in place of the Walther. But I needed to get the Walther mainly for that gift. A week past and I got a response from Peter saying that Maruzen had a blowback version of it that just came out and I was sold! I could kinda sense, from Peter's voice, that it might not be such a good purchase.

A couple weeks past and I finally got around to calling Peter, he said that the Walther just came in and it is a really really nice piece. Very nicely set and nicely weighted. My heart raced when I heard that from him and off my check went out. Couple days past and the UPS man showed up with the box :) Ripping the package open I found this great looking silver PPK.

All logos were in place, additional 'made in Japan' and 'Maruzen' logos were found, but all in all is really sweet looking gun. Holding the Walther in my right hand while wiping off the drool with the left, I took out the magazine and ignored the manual. Filled it up with air and BBs I was ready to fire. Since it was a double / single action all I need to do is just pull the trigger and it'll fire. The barrel is a fixed barrel making it an extremely accurate gun. The safety on this is just the real one too, with the hammer cocked, placing it in safety will safely decock the hammer. Stripping it down is easy too, but would suggest following the pictures, since I don't read Japanese at all =P.

My over all impression ... This thing would make a great backup gun. If not for that it would look super clean in a display. The silver is really well done on the ABS. I must say the workmanship on this is beyond my expectations.

Here's the run down of specs:

model: Maruzen Walther PPK/S .380 ACP

length: 6.25" approx
height: 4.2" approx w/o magazine
weight: dunno.. I don't got a scale but the real one is supposed to be 21 oz
range: dunno.. didn't measure it when I tried it
